5 Mbps is barely fast enough for present day web browsing, let alone fast enough for the near future. As legislation typically takes a while to be approved and enacted, it is shortsighted to set such a low and bare minimum standard for the country. We are at a point where even low fidelity websites are now inundated with so many ads, beacons, and trackers that a 5Mb/s can't load the local papers website in under 10 seconds. In summary we should be looking to set high goals that enable Canadians to become a global leader in quality and cost-efficiency and enabling our citizens to thrive in the modern world.
