What telecommunications services do Canadians consider necessary to participate in the digital economy?Highspeed home and cellular internet connectivity is critical. Upload speeds have been lacking on everything except LTE. Data caps on home and cellular data are too restrictive. SMS access is tangentially needed for the time being. POTS at home and on cell is of low importance.Which services do Canadians rely on the most to communicate?First and third party messaging services over IP. SMS used to communicate with businesses, phone service to communicate with irregular contacts and businesses. A low cost, high cap, data only cellular service could easily fill all requirements of most Canadians.Should the prices for telecommunications services in Canada be similar between urban and non-urban areas? No, the difficult to maintain networks in rural areas should not be paid for with profits from urban centers. Deregulate that requirement. What upload and download speeds for broadband Internet service would meet Canadians’ needs?Upload speeds should have a minimum speed of 2mbit across all services. Download speeds of ~5mbit are generally sufficient assuming low latency.
