The bottom line is, there is no competition. Once you strip out the free 6 month this and discounted 3 month that, the major players are always within a couple dollars of each other for services. I find it hard to believe that ONE provider, in a city of over a million people (Calgary) can't wipe the floor with their competitors by introducing an amazing deal. They won't because they behave as ONE provider, not separate entities. As long as one guy is ripping us off, the other guy will too. The CRTC needs to get its act together and allow smaller players into the market. Instead companies like Bell, Rogers, Telus, and Shaw continue to treat us as "frogs in the pot", slowly but surely increasing pricing and decreasing value while we sit there content. As a Canadian in 2016, I believe that spending almost $2,000 per year of my money on something that is essentially as necessary as a utility is outrageous.
