Canada is a laughingstock when it comes to telecommunications. I'd say we're falling way behind, but that implies we weren't always way behind. The market has utterly failed Canadians. We pay more for worse service than basically every first world country. The CRTC has failed Canadians. They have done nothing to protect us from the predations of the big telecoms. This century will be defined by computers and the Internet. If we don't have first-class access, we cannot maintain our position on the world stage. It's long past time for the CRTC to require real broadband for all Canadians - 100mbps as an absolute minimum, with a plan for universal gigabit in the next ten years.
