The FCC in the US has defined broadband as 25Mbps download and 4Mbps upload. I think the CRTC should adopt a similar definition. More and more web sites and online services are adopting cloud solutions which require high bandwidth. This makes a 5Mbps inadequate for the average household. It might be sufficient for a single person however not a house of 2-3 or more. I currently am limited to this speed and its very difficult to share the connection with 2 other people in the house. Just downloading required system updates for operating systems and security updates can tie down the connection leaving us without internet for an entire day.
